5 out of 5 stars Win-Win! An excellent product that will easily pay for itself.   July 3, 2007

This is a well made valve that is easily installed, and has the potential to save thousands of gallons of heated water if properly used.

The Danco Shower Head Shut-Off Valve is of all metal construction, with a quarter turn shut-off valve on the side. It is 1/2" I.P.S. as advertised, but what is not mentioned in the product description is that it incorporates a water restrcting reduced internal diameter, presumably for the purpose of saving water. For this reason, we approached the installation with some trepidation, fearing reduced water volume through the spray head. Not to fear, our shower continued to perform just as well as before.

One oddity with the installation is that a rubber gasket was enclosed in the package, but was not mentioned in the instructions. It seemed to fit well in the female upstream end of the valve, so we installed it there- but we're not certain that its use is required. One concern is that installation of this gasket as noted may block the small water bypass orfice used to maintain water temperature when the valve is shut off. We have, however, noted no difficulties with the operation of the unit.

Overall, a fine unit and highly recommended.

Great for showers that have no external shut-off at the shower head. While you lather up, you can turn off the water. When you want to rinse, turn the valve back on and the water comes back at the same temp while saving water that would otherwise be wasted.

This product is awesome. We have a 12 year old who likes to take hour long showers with the water on full blast. She can't seem to master the concept of water pressure, no matter how many times we try to explain how to adjust the faucets. It took about a minute to install this baby. I didn't even tell her I installed it. I just turned the volume control down to "cheap motel setting" and voila! Our water bill was down $10 this month. No more fussing with kids that hog the water and leave you in a cold shower! Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Shower valve   January 9, 2010

Very well constructed. I had used plastic ones over the years and they all eventually wore out or failed. Operation is very smooth and will throttle flow or completely shut off. Works exactly as I needed and expected.

We bought two of these to conserve water by having "Navy" showers most of the time. The valve is sturdy. You can adjust it with a simple twist (much better than trying to twist the large dial on most water-saver shower heads with wet soapy hands). I like the fact that turning the valve allows for a total water shutoff (for when you're soaping up). But it also can be turned to create almost any water output, from a trickle to almost the full water flow. We previously used a less expensive "push button"-style shut-off valve, and it was so cheaply/poorly made that the spring mechanism of the button broke after only a week or two.
